Perak: The Perak government will take strict action against business operators found selling single-use plastic bags once the ban comes into effect on March 1. State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim stated that operators will be given a six-month trial period to adjust before enforcement by local authorities (PBT) begins.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teh Kok Lim emphasized that traders will be prohibited from selling single-use plastic bags once the directive is finalized. He suggested that businesses should offer recycled bags as an alternative, highlighting the importance of this step in ensuring environmental sustainability and reducing plastic pollution. This announcement was made at Aeon Big Falim.
The state government had initially scheduled the full ban for January this year. However, on March 20 last year, it was announced that the ban would be postponed to March 1 to provide the public with more time to prepare.
