Auxiliary Police Services Must Not Be Misused For Commercial Purposes, Says Bukit Aman

Kuala lumpur: Parties utilising the services of auxiliary police have been reminded not to misinterpret the role and functions of the force or to misuse it for commercial purposes and the benefit of certain parties. Deputy Director of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) at Bukit Aman Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid emphasized the importance of adhering to the intended purpose of the auxiliary police force, which is to support national security efforts and assist the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) within clearly defined responsibilities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nik Ros Azhan highlighted that any form of abuse of power, deployment beyond approved limits, use of personnel or assets for commercial purposes, or execution of duties contravening stipulated regulations is strictly prohibited. He underscored that such practices could potentially undermine the credibility and public confidence in security institutions, as mentioned in his closing address at the 36th Annual Conference of the Malaysian Auxiliary Police Association (MAPA).

Nik Ros Azhan also addressed concerns related to manpower within the auxiliary police force, stressing the need for strategic and phased planning to address shortages, imbalanced deployment, and unstructured human resource planning, which could impact operational efficiency and security at respective premises. He revealed that while a total of 57,000 auxiliary police posts had been approved, only 27,000 have been gazetted to date.

He further noted the necessity for continuous strengthening of professionalism and competency among auxiliary police personnel to keep pace with evolving security threats and technological advancements. Systematic in-service training and skills enhancement were deemed crucial to prepare personnel for physical threats as well as technological challenges, cyber security issues, crisis management, and community engagement.

Meanwhile, MAPA president Datin Seri Asmawati Ahmad expressed hope for more agencies to register with MAPA to streamline their interactions with the PDRM, particularly with the JPJKK at Bukit Aman, regarding training programmes and advisory services on auxiliary police matters. She noted that currently, 181 agencies are registered under MAPA out of a total of 281 agencies using auxiliary police services nationwide, with major users including Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, FGV Holdings Bhd, and companies operating at ports.
