Australia: Australia is eyeing an increase in investment and trade with Malaysia next year, said Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Danielle Heinecke. According to BERNAMA News Agency, increasing investments is one of Australia's objectives in Malaysia, based on the country's attractiveness in the ASEAN region. Heinecke emphasized Malaysia's strong economic performance and the promising opportunities it offers in the technology sector. She noted that factors such as an improving regulatory environment, political stability, and the local workforce's multilingual capabilities play significant roles in attracting investors. Heinecke also mentioned the presence of Malaysian investments in Australia, highlighting that the country remains open to foreign companies operating within its borders. She acknowledged the success of many Malaysian companies in Australia and stressed the ongoing collaboration with Malaysian ministries to ensure businesses take advantage of the four existing trade agreements-namely , the Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA), the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The High Commissioner underscored the importance of promoting Malaysia as an investment destination and announced plans to continue programs aimed at showcasing Malaysia's offerings to Australian businesses. Key areas of focus for investment include renewable energy, healthcare, manufacturing, digital, and equity investment sectors. Malaysia ranks as Australia's 11th largest two-way goods and services trading partner, with trade valued at A$32.8 billion in 2024. Australian data indicates that in 2024, Australian investments in Malaysia reached A$8.76 billion, including a foreign direct investment (FDI) of A$4.44 billion. Conversely, Malaysian investments in Australia amounted to A$24.08 billion, with FDI of A$14.11 billion.
