Melaka: A total of 10 security agendas will form the consensus and focus of discussions at the ASEAN Ministers’ Meeting on Security in Melaka in September. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who will chair the meeting, stated that topics such as tackling cross-border crimes, intelligence sharing, capacity building, and joint operations will be on the agenda.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin emphasized the importance of leveraging the ASEAN Chairmanship as an effective platform for exchanging information and ideas to develop strategies that address security issues. He spoke to reporters following the Security Briefing and Monitoring Programme with the Home Minister and Foreign Delegates.
The three-day meeting will be fully utilized at the ASEAN ministerial level to present and discuss security issues that are of common interest to member countries. Saifuddin noted the significance of collaboration among ASEAN nations, highlighting that while some security challenges are visible, others are not as apparent and require cooperation with neighboring countries to address effectively.
