Army Officer, Believed To Be Mastermind Of Drug Smuggling Syndicate Arrested During Op Sohor

Kuala lumpur: An army officer arrested during Op Sohor on suspicion of involvement in a smuggling syndicate is also believed to be the mastermind of a drug trafficking operation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that the discovery followed a raid conducted jointly with the Royal Malaysia Police’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN). During the operation, a substantial quantity of drugs was seized.

The army officer is suspected of leaking important information to criminals and being directly involved in the smuggling activities. This revelation was made at the MACC Chief Commissioners’ Roundtable Conference 2025.

The media reported yesterday that 10 individuals, including three army officers, two former senior army officers aged between 30 and 55, and an Indonesian citizen, were arrested in the Klang Valley through Op Sohor. The raid, which concluded a year-long investigation, led to the confiscation of more than RM63,000 in cash, drug packages, weighing and measuring equipment, liquor, and imitation weapons.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman JSJN director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the arrest of four individuals on suspicion of involvement in a drug smuggling syndicate during the raid. The suspects included a military officer believed to be the mastermind, a local man, and two foreign women.

The seizures comprised 70 packets of Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) powder weighing 1.1 kilograms, cannabis (92 grams), ketamine (22 grams), liquid MDMA (64 grams), and ecstasy (0.6 grams), with a total weight of 1.3 kg and an estimated value of RM30,000.
