Army Foils Attempt To Smuggle Cattle Worth RM225,000

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Army (TDM) has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 20 cows valued at approximately RM225,000 into the country during an operation conducted at the border yesterday. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities along Malaysia's borders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 2nd Infantry Division headquarters reported that their operational team, while conducting surveillance with a mini unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), detected a suspicious-looking lorry at 6:45 pm near the border area. The UAV monitoring revealed about 20 cows on the Thai side, which were poised to be smuggled into Malaysia via the Sungai Golok route.

The statement from the army noted that the driver, presumed to be a local individual, abandoned the lorry and its cargo to evade arrest. The operational team managed to seize the 20 cows, which lacked valid import permits, along with the three-tonne Isuzu lorry used for transporting the livestock. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM225,000.

A police report regarding the incident was lodged at the Lubok Stol Police Station in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas. All confiscated items have been handed over to the Customs Department for further action.
