Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent visit to Kenya has reinforced the trust and political goodwill between Malaysia and Kenya as both nations celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations. Kenyan High Commissioner to Malaysia Ekitela Moru emphasized the significance of Kuala Lumpur-Nairobi's long-standing relations, highlighting the shared values and growing ties in political, economic, trade and investment, and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this partnership is not merely symbolic but offers an opportunity to deepen cooperation in key priority areas such as trade, investment, ICT, digital economy, education, and tourism. Moru noted the complementary strengths of both nations, with Kenya serving as a gateway to Africa and Malaysia as a hub for the Southeast Asia region.
Moru expressed Kenya's commitment to pursuing inclusive development, drawing inspiration from Malaysia's cultural values and development trajectory as a model for sustainable progress. He acknowledged Malaysia's experience in poverty reduction and large-scale affordable housing as inspirations for Kenya to enhance its social protection measures, public-private partnerships, and inclusive development policies.
Anwar's visit to Nairobi on November 23 and 24 marked the first official trip by a Malaysian Prime Minister to Kenya since 2007. During the visit, both nations agreed to explore partnerships and investments, including collaboration in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and upgraded their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership.
