Anwar Advises Opposition MPs to Unite Before Requesting Allocations

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has advised opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) to first reach a consensus among themselves before making any requests regarding allocations for opposition representatives. Anwar emphasized the importance of unity among opposition ranks as a prerequisite for any discussions on allocations, which are currently under the purview of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that the Deputy Prime Minister has been mandated to handle the matter of allocations for opposition MPs. He urged opposition MPs to reach an agreement internally before approaching Fadillah with their proposals. Anwar noted that there is currently no consensus among the opposition MPs, with some expressing willingness to negotiate while others remain hesitant.

Anwar addressed these remarks in response to a query from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat. He suggested that Shahidan initiate discussions with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and other MPs to reach a consensus, which could then be conveyed to Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah for further action.

In reaction to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin’s expressed readiness to meet with him to discuss allocations, Anwar reiterated that the responsibility for this issue has already been assigned to Fadillah. He expressed openness to engage in discussions on other matters but emphasized that decisions regarding allocations should be handled by the Deputy Prime Minister.
