Ampar Tenang PPR Ends Over Two-Decade Wait, Delivers Homes To 167 Families

Selangor: The RM88 million Ampar Tenang People’s Housing Project (PPR) ends a more than twenty-five-year chapter of anticipation, finally delivering new homes to 167 families. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari described the project as symbolising the successful state-federal resolution of a resettlement issue dating back to the development of Putrajaya in 1998.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin highlighted that the issue began around 1998 or 1999 with the construction of Putrajaya, which involved farmers from Prang Besar who were temporarily relocated. The state government endeavored to assist by maintaining and managing the temporary settlements, spending approximately RM1.5 million despite the poor condition of those houses.

After presenting letters of offer for the project, Amirudin explained that the handovers will occur in phases. These depend on the completion of commitment fee payments, inheritance issues, and the installation of basic utilities like water and electricity. He noted that residents need to pay between RM20,000 and RM50,000 to own assets valued at RM145,000, marking a successful outcome for those who have waited over two decades.

Amirudin also described the Ampar Tenang PPR’s success as the perfect Deepavali gift, especially since most families are from the Indian community. Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, emphasized KPKT’s commitment to work collaboratively with state governments, local authorities, and communities for an inclusive and holistic development agenda.

In a statement, KPKT clarified that the 167 eligible participants receiving offer letters were selected based on their payment records for previous low-cost houses at Taman Pertama and the completion of documentation related to name changes or inheritance matters. The Ampar Tenang PPR project spans a 30-acre site and includes 404 single-storey terrace houses, each with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, complemented by facilities such as a community hall and shared open spaces.
