Kuala lumpur: The year 2026 marks the implementation of the government's reform and development agenda, with its effects already being felt by households, businesses, and the economy, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. He noted that this momentum is driven by the commencement of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which aims to chart a course towards a more resilient, high-value, and inclusive future.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amir Hamzah highlighted that the previous year was pivotal in terms of design and commitment, as the government clarified its direction, re-centered its policies around rakyat-first outcomes, and established 'Ekonomi MADANI' as its guiding philosophy. In his keynote address at the annual property developer conference, 'The CEO Series 2026', organized by REHDA Institute, he emphasized the government's role as an enabler, providing fiscal stability and strategic initiatives like the Government-Linked Enterprises Activation and Reform Programme (GEAR-uP) to foster enterprise growth.
He pointed out that many businesses are adapting to the new economic landscape by pivoting towards recurring income, wellness districts, and data-centre landbanks while managing a more complex global environment. In this context, the government's responsibility is to offer steadfast stability and clarity, enabling long-term decision-making with confidence.
Through the GEAR-uP initiative, Amir Hamzah stated that the government is collaborating with government-linked investment companies to mobilize RM120 billion in domestic investment over the next five years. The primary goal is to ensure that national capital is used to serve the national interest, particularly by anchoring high-growth and high-value industries that will shape Malaysia's future.
He stressed the importance of investment being rooted in Malaysia, creating lasting value for its people, rather than pursuing transient capital. As the country prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, targeting 47 million visitors and RM329 billion in tourism revenue, the minister underscored the potential for job creation and opportunities for small and medium enterprises and local communities.
For the property and hospitality sectors, the minister urged stakeholders to consider the experience economy. Visit Malaysia Year 2026 is an opportunity to welcome visitors more effectively, showcasing Malaysia's best through thoughtful design, service excellence, and care, Amir Hamzah concluded.
