Kota bharu: The agriculture sector remains the second largest contributor to Kelantan’s economy as it accounts for over 20 percent of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with the services sector leading the way by contributing over 69 percent.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud stated that the agrofood GDP and agricultural output in the state have consistently increased due to the efforts of various departments and agencies, along with the contributions of farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen.
He highlighted the significant impacts of climate change, global temperature shifts, geopolitical crises, wars, and import-export restrictions, especially those related to food, on the economy and people’s survival. Many parties have begun to emphasize the importance of sufficient food supplies and resources. Kelantan has long aspired to become the country’s food granary, proactively driving initiatives, programs, and projects focused on food sources, supply, and security for both the state and the nation.
The state government continues to focus on transforming the agriculture and agrofood sector. Although this transformation process requires time, the implementation of high-impact programs and projects persists in alignment with evolving times. The Kelantan Sejahtera 2033 agenda, under the strategic ‘Penghayatan Membangun Bersama Islam’ plan, ensures that the state government is on track to manage food security. Collaboration with various stakeholders is integral to achieving this goal while upholding people’s rights as outlined in the Federal Constitution.
