Aerial Tourism Set to Launch in Melaka in September: Ab Rauf

Melaka: Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the introduction of aerial tourism in the state starting in September. The initiative was proposed by the International Aero Training Academy (IATAC) Sdn Bhd to offer a new tourism product in the region.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposal includes developing the area into a tourist attraction with a 40-minute joy ride flight package. The package will allow tourists and visitors to experience Melaka’s scenic beauty from the air. The plan suggests eight flights per day, with fare rates to be disclosed following the completion of approval processes.

Ab Rauf disclosed this information at the Open Day ceremony of the 2u1i Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Programme at IATAC Batu Berendam. The event was attended by National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) vice-chancellor Lt Gen Datuk Arman Rumaizi and IATAC chief executive officer Captain Kenneth Yap.

The degree programme, as Ab Rauf highlighted, marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in the country. It is a result of a strategic partnership between UPNM and IATAC, integrating two years of academic study with one year of industrial training. This contrasts with the typical six-year duration required to obtain dual qualifications: a Bachelor’s Degree and a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).

Ab Rauf expressed pride in Melaka hosting this educational advancement, noting its potential to invigorate the aviation and education sectors in the state.
