Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has acknowledged the strong economic fundamentals of Malaysia, recognizing its vibrant growth in creating opportunities not only for Malaysians but for the entire Southeast Asian region. This recognition was highlighted during a meeting between ADB President Masato Kanda and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar shared that Kanda expressed ADB’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s leadership in driving economic integration in Southeast Asia. This support will include providing financing for cross-border projects such as the ASEAN Power Grid, which aims to enhance regional connectivity and energy security.
The Prime Minister further expressed his appreciation for ADB’s commitment to intensifying cooperation with Malaysia, particularly in private sector financing for strategic infrastructure development, energy transition initiatives focusing on green and renewable energy, and efforts to strengthen research and knowledge sharing. Anwar conveyed these sentiments in a Facebook post, highlighting the significance of ADB’s support for Malaysia’s economic ambitions.
The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening ties between Malaysia and ADB, with Anwar emphasizing a spirit of inclusive and visionary regional cooperation. He stated that Malaysia is committed to continuing its role as a strategic partner of ADB, aiming for a greener, more competitive, and resilient future for the sustainability of the region. Kanda also congratulated Malaysia on hosting the ASEAN Summit, acknowledging the nation’s leadership in regional affairs.
