Langkawi: A total of 1,500 athletes from 56 countries have confirmed their participation in the 10th edition of Ironman Malaysia, scheduled to take place in Langkawi from October 30 to November 2.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ironman Asia Regional Director CG Lim announced that the race will consist of a 3.8-kilometre swim, a 180-kilometre bike ride, and a 42.2-kilometre marathon run. Lim highlighted the strong presence of local competitors, with 500 athletes participating in both the full Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 Langkawi. In total, the event will bring together 1,500 athletes, 5,000 spectators, and 1,250 volunteers.
Lim noted that many local triathletes trace their beginnings to Langkawi, where they first encountered the challenge of Ironman before advancing to international competitions. The event, set against a tropical paradise backdrop, offers athletes a cultural journey through Langkawi’s landscapes.
Since its inception, Ironman Malaysia has provided a significant economic boost to Langkawi. From 2014, the event has generated an estimated RM248 million in economic impact, reaching nearly RM38 million in 2019 and rebounding with RM23.8 million last year post-pandemic. This year’s edition aims to continue this momentum, enhancing Langkawi’s reputation as a premier endurance sport destination in the region.
Lim emphasized that this 10th edition represents more than just a race. It signifies a decade of community building, global exposure, and shared endurance. It also serves as a platform for Malaysians to pursue their dreams, with many having secured coveted slots in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
