Rawang: A total of 15 people sustained injuries, including three in critical condition, following a collision between a bus and a three-tonne lorry at KM441.2 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), southbound, between Sungai Buaya and Rawang in the early hours.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call at 5.24 am. Fire engines from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the scene by 5.51 am. Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar stated that the accident involved an express bus carrying 40 passengers and two drivers. Among the passengers, 38 managed to exit safely, while four individuals were trapped inside the bus. The lorry driver was also found trapped in his vehicle.
All injured victims were transported to Sungai Buloh Hospital. Eight were treated in the green zone, four in the yellow zone, and three in the red zone. Ahmad Mukhlis highlighted the challenges faced by rescue teams in extricating a male bus passenger in his 50s. The road divider had pinned the victim's legs, requiring careful efforts before he was successfully freed at 8.53 am.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) reported via X that as of 9.23 am, the northbound right and middle lanes remained closed. Southbound traffic experienced a five-kilometre congestion, while northbound traffic was slow for three kilometres. Highway users were advised to plan their journeys and consider alternative routes. Heavy vehicles were recommended to exit at the Bukit Beruntung Toll Plaza, while light vehicles were advised to exit at the Sungai Buaya Toll Plaza. A contra lane has been activated following the accident.
