UPSI Targets i-Furqan As Int’l Tahfiz Education Reference Hub

Tanjong malim: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is aiming to position the Tahfiz And Turath Islami Education Institute (i-Furqan) as a key reference centre for tahfiz education at national, regional, and international levels, in efforts to strengthen the development of Islamic education in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, UPSI Board member Prof Dr Azmi Mohamad emphasized that i-Furqan should operate beyond the scope of an ordinary academic department and play a pivotal role in advancing Islamic education and the country's tahfiz institutions. He expressed a desire for i-Furqan to progress further and contribute to strengthening national tahfiz education policy, aspiring for it to emerge as a leading reference centre not only in Malaysia but also in the Nusantara region and abroad.

Prof Dr Azmi conveyed these ambitions during his address at the Prof Dr Mohamad Rozaimi Ramle Budiman lecture programme, held at the Sultan Abdul Jalil Campus Convention Hall, UPSI, Tanjong Malim. He highlighted that UPSI is documenting each stage of i-Furqan's development, including its new building project, to establish a lasting institutional legacy for future generations.

Additionally, Azmi expressed appreciation for Prof Dr Mohamad Rozaimi Ramle's work in fiqh and usul fiqh, which has bolstered UPSI's profile and earned recognition both nationally and internationally. He noted that Mohamad Rozaimi's appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ) reflects the strength of UPSI-trained talent and is a significant recognition for the institution.

During the lecture titled "Ilmu Hadis dan Realiti Pascamodenisme: Menyuluh Kebenaran di Celah Kebanjiran Maklumat" (Hadith Studies and the Reality of Postmodernism: Illuminating Truth Amid an Overload of Information), Mohamad Rozaimi underscored the importance of hadith science in verifying the authenticity of reports attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He stressed the growing need to understand hadith knowledge and evaluate narrations amid the challenges posed by the information age.
