Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed his deep appreciation to all parties who contributed to the success of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, throughout last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar said that all personnel involved, including security forces, government servants, and cleaning staff, had worked tirelessly to uphold Malaysia's good name on the international stage. He highlighted the efforts of various groups, from cleaning staff to cultural arts performers, and praised the professionalism of the Royal Malaysia Police and other agencies in ensuring the event proceeded without incident.
Anwar commended the dedication of officers from the security forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), who remained committed past midnight to ensure the event's success. He emphasized that the unwavering commitment of all ministries, regardless of the time, demonstrated their desire to elevate Malaysia on the world stage.
The appreciation ceremony was attended by notable figures, including the Prime Minister's wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and several other Cabinet ministers. Anwar highlighted the unity and consensus among all parties, showcasing that success could be achieved through teamwork and cooperation.
Anwar expressed his desire for Malaysia to be recognized not only for cultural performances but also for its economic management, use of new technologies, and international trade and investment. He underscored the importance of clear policies, firm leadership, and good governance, stressing the need to eradicate abuse of power and corruption.
He urged that the success of fulfilling the ASEAN Chair responsibilities last year should motivate all parties to work harder and remain accountable to the country. Anwar concluded by emphasizing Malaysia's commitment to fostering relationships with both powerful nations and less developed neighbors like Timor-Leste, which recently joined ASEAN as its 11th member.
