PDRM Commitment to Impartiality in High-profile Investigations Affirmed by Deputy Home Minister

Kuala lumpur: The police (PDRM) do not protect any individual in high-profile case investigations, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah. He stated that investigations into an intimate video recording that went viral in 2019 and was linked to a former Cabinet member are still ongoing. The focus remains on tracing the original recording and all devices and equipment used.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Anuar emphasized that PDRM conducts investigations professionally, transparently, and fairly, without considering the position or political affiliation of any party. He made these remarks during the Dewan Rakyat Special Chamber session in response to a question from Datuk Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) concerning the progress of investigations into several high-profile cases, including the 2019 video recording.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 292, Section 377B, and Section 504 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. In a separate case involving the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Shamsul Anuar mentioned that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is handling the matter and has issued an arrest warrant against the individual.

Shamsul Anuar noted that the MACC's involvement signifies its jurisdiction over the case, and he refrained from providing further comments on it. On extradition matters, he clarified that the process is governed by the Extradition Act 1992 and treaties between Malaysia and other countries. Malaysia has extradition treaties with 11 countries and has also signed the ASEAN Extradition Treaty. The country remains open to negotiations with foreign nations to enhance cooperation in extradition processes.
