Malaysian Haj Pilgrims Begin Journey To Arafah

Makkah: A total of 31,600 Malaysian haj pilgrims, among the 1.5 million Muslims from around the world performing the pilgrimage this year, began moving to Arafah in stages from 7.30 am today to prepare for the wukuf ritual tomorrow. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the movement of pilgrims was proceeding smoothly and was expected to be completed by today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zulkifli Hasan expressed his satisfaction with the progress, noting the importance of this journey for Malaysian haj pilgrims, referred to as dhuyufurrahman. He mentioned that the pilgrims would commence their wukuf tomorrow, marking a significant moment in their spiritual journey. The departure was witnessed by Dr Zulkifli himself, who emphasized the smooth coordination of the transfer process.

The logistical arrangements for the pilgrims involved the allocation of 25 buses for each maktab (accommodation), transporting them from seven hotels to Arafah in three stages. This location is approximately 20 kilometers from Makkah. The entire movement was organized in three main phases, utilizing shuttle bus services to ensure an efficient and timely progression of the pilgrims towards their destination.

Dr Zulkifli also issued an advisory for the pilgrims, urging them to take care of their health amidst the extreme heat conditions. He advised them to avoid outdoor activities during the peak afternoon temperatures to prevent any health complications. The focus, he mentioned, should remain on their worship, following the guidance provided by the maktab management.

The Saudi Arabian government announced that the 9th of Zulhijjah, which marks the day of wukuf, would fall on Tuesday (May 26), with Wednesday observed as the first day of Aidiladha in the kingdom.
