Kuantan: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, have conveyed their condolences to the families of the three contractor personnel killed in the incident at the Sepat platform in the Terengganu-Kelantan waters yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Their Royal Highnesses expressed deep sorrow and sympathy over the tragedy, which claimed the lives of two Pahang natives, Muhammad Faezuan Hakim Mohammad Bustamam, 28, from Kuantan, and Nik Muhammad Hafifi Asri Ab Majid, 38, from Bandar Indera Mahkota, as well as Ahmad Fiqri Zakaria, 38, from Batu Berendam, Melaka. 'Their Royal Highnesses pray that their souls be blessed, their sins forgiven, and that they be placed among the faithful and righteous,' according to a post uploaded on the Kesultanan Pahang's Facebook page.
Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah also conveyed their hopes that the victims' families would be blessed with strength and fortitude in navigating this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail extended his condolences and described their passing while carrying out their duties and responsibilities at work as a great loss, not only to their loved ones but also to the industry.
In the incident that occurred at 12.50 pm, four workers were believed to have boarded a lifeboat on the platform to lower themselves to the sea to carry out maintenance work on the lower section of the platform. However, the rope or hook attached to the boat was believed to have detached, causing the victims to fall into the sea along with the boat.
The fourth victim, Mohd Taufik Mohd Ruslan, 37, from Banting, Selangor, was reported to be critically injured and is currently receiving treatment at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu.
