Kuala lumpur: The Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is gearing up to manage over 2,400 flights during the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) travel period, ensuring that more Malaysians can travel home safely and reliably during this festive season. This includes up to 198 additional services offered by Malaysia Airlines and Firefly, to accommodate the increased travel demand.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the flights will be operational across the CNY travel window, from February 11 to February 23, 2026. Malaysia Airlines is set to operate up to 1,498 flights, supplemented by an additional 130 services to handle the heightened demand during the festive period. Meanwhile, Firefly will operate up to 962 flights from February 13 to February 23, with up to 68 additional services to enhance connectivity during the peak travel season.
The expanded operations aim to support key domestic homecoming routes between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, including destinations such as Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Sandakan. During the peak period from February 13 to February 16, both Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will also offer all-in, one-way subsidised fares from Kuala Lumpur to selected East Malaysia destinations.
Malaysia Airlines passengers can avail themselves of subsidised fares of up to RM569 for one-way flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan, Labuan, Kuching, Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu. Firefly will offer subsidised fares of up to RM548 for one-way flights from Kuala Lumpur to destinations such as Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kuching, and Sibu.
