Kota bharu: The Kelantan National Security Council (NSC) is preparing to demolish an additional 96 illegally constructed jetties situated on government land along the Sungai Golok by March. To date, 25 jetties have already been dismantled in the districts of Pasir Mas and Tumpat.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Kelantan NSC Director, Datuk Mohd A Aruwan Ab Aziz, stated that there are currently 223 illegal jetties; however, efforts are primarily focused on removing the structured illegal jetties. The demolition process is being conducted in stages due to the significant number of illegal structures identified along the river.
The ongoing operations were detailed during a press briefing at the General Operations Force (GOF) Pok Teh Kana Post, where Deputy Director-General of National Security (Security Management) of the NSC, Prime Minister's Department (JPM), Badrul Shah Mohd Idris, was also in attendance following his visit to the Sungai Golok Border Land Acquisition and Security Fence Construction Project.
Further elaborating on the operations, Mohd A Aruwan mentioned that previous demolitions have been successful due to the cooperation between federal and state government agencies. Weather conditions have posed a challenge, with work temporarily halted during the Northeast Monsoon season for safety reasons, but will resume once conditions stabilize.
Emphasis is currently placed on removing jetties on government-owned land, with discussions ongoing regarding those on private land to ensure an organized demolition process. Mohd A Aruwan highlighted the smooth progress of current efforts and the anticipated discussions needed for future operations.
Previously, Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat reported that the closure of the border via illegal bases since December 2024 has resulted in a notable decrease in cross-border crime cases.
