Kuala lumpur: The government is currently reviewing potential improvements to the land administration mechanism under the Land (Group Settlement Areas) Act 1960. The proposed changes include limiting the registration of heirs to two nominees and appointing a single representative for administrative affairs, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government recognizes the growing housing needs of the new generation and is considering proposals that would allow the construction of more than one housing unit on a residential lot. This would be subject to specific conditions, planning policies, and necessary approvals from state and local authorities. The commitment is to ensure that any amendments balance the interests of settlers, heirs, the new generation of FELDA, state governments, and the country's overall development needs.
Dr Ahmad Zahid's written reply, published on the Parliament portal, was in response to a query from Kamal Ashaari (PN-Kuala Krau) about the latest status of amendments to the Land Act 1960. This includes proposed changes to inheritance rights, housing for the second generation, and the separation of FELDA house-farm sites.
Additionally, Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Rural and Regional Development Minister, reported that 96.86% of settlers, or 109,104 out of 112,638 nationwide, have received their land titles. The government, through FELDA, has been in collaboration with state governments, State Land and Mines Offices, and District Land Offices to expedite this process, ensuring legal land ownership rights for settlers and their heirs.
Furthermore, as of June 2026, FELCRA Berhad has issued land titles for house site lots to its participants across the country. Official records indicate that 4,274 out of 6,025 house site lots have been issued titles, spanning 43 projects nationwide. The remaining 1,751 lots are undergoing the title issuance process by the State Land and Mines Office, as part of FELCRA's dedication to securing legal ownership rights for its participants.
