6,680 Individuals Issued Notices for Littering Including 1,866 Foreigners and 15 Teens

Kuala lumpur: A total of 6,680 individuals nationwide, including 15 teenagers, have been issued notices of offence (NPK) for littering in public places since January. Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Aiman Athirah Sabu revealed this data, noting that the figure encompasses 1,866 foreigners from countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, China, and Bangladesh.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, 289 individuals from the total have been convicted in court, with 158 having completed the Community Service Orders (PKM). This announcement was made at a press conference following the Sinergi Kasih MADANI Komuniti Lestari dan Selamat programme at the People's Housing Programme (PPR) Taman Desa Mutiara. Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) CEO Khalid Mohamed was also present at the event.

Aiman Athirah mentioned that the teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, primarily committed these offences in Kuala Lumpur and will undergo the same punishment process, including the Community Service Orders. The PKM must be implemented in accordance with the Social Welfare Department's approach under the Child Act 2001. The minister emphasized that SWCorp has communicated with the Ministry of Education to enhance awareness among school students about these enforcement measures.

Aiman Athirah stressed that SWCorp remains dedicated to its responsibilities and will not provide exemptions to any individuals found committing offences, including minors. The enforcement under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) has been in effect nationwide since January 1.

Previously, it was reported by Khalid that the government would enforce stricter actions against repeat offenders. This includes a maximum fine of up to RM3,000 under local authority by-laws, penalties under Act 672, and up to 12 hours of community service.
