Labuan PERKESO’s Direct Support Initiative for Bereaved Families

Labuan: The Labuan Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has adopted a compassionate, face-to-face approach in reaching out to bereaved families, ensuring they receive guidance, comfort, and social protection support without having to endure the process alone. Its office manager, Sylvester Candy Anak Pai, emphasized that the organisation would not wait for the families of contributors to come to its office for help, especially when they were still coping with the loss of their loved ones.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sylvester Candy Anak Pai stated, "We want to meet them personally, engage with them and understand their situation. This friendly approach allows us to explain the benefits available to them while showing that PERKESO is present during their difficult moments." He made these remarks following a welfare visit to the home of the late Arman Ishak in Kampung Batu Arang.

Arman passed away on April 13, leaving behind his wife, Kurniah Ambo Dalli, and their 16-year-old son, Muhammad Quzhairie Arman. Sylvester highlighted that the visit was part of Labuan PERKESO's ongoing efforts to ensure that contributors' dependents are supported following the loss of a family breadwinner.

"This is not merely about processing benefits ... it is also about being there for the families, listening to them and guiding them through the assistance available under PERKESO," he added. During the visit, Labuan PERKESO presented a Kotak Prihatin to the family as a gesture of concern and solidarity.

Kurniah and her son will benefit from a monthly survivors' pension under PERKESO, providing them with continued financial support in the absence of the family's primary earner. The Labuan PERKESO team also informed the family about the benefits and assistance they are entitled to, reinforcing the organisation's role in safeguarding the welfare of contributors' dependents.

The visit included the presence of Labuan PERKESO synergy executive Mohd Shaufie Iman Elyias Samijoh, disability management assistant officer Mohd Hirzi Mohd Tahir, senior executive officer Roslimeh @ Baby Rosli, operations assistant Ardy Buhain Jeffridin, and clerk Wan Farulnaim Wan Mohd Faizul. Labuan PERKESO's initiative reflects its commitment to extending social protection with a human touch, combining statutory assistance with empathy, engagement, and moral support for families during their time of grief.
