‘Yob Kinding’ Tiger Considered for Breeding Stock to Aid Conservation Efforts

Bukit kinding: The two-year-old male tiger, known as 'Yob Kinding,' captured in Bukit Kinding, is being considered for breeding stock to help conserve the Panthera Tigris Jacksoni species from extinction. This potential development was announced by Yusoff Shariff, director of the Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yob Kinding is currently under observation and receiving treatment at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Sungkai. Yusoff Shariff noted that male tigers typically reach sexual maturity at the age of five, which is a suitable age for them to be used in breeding programs. However, further assessments regarding Yob Kinding's reproductive potential will be carried out by NWRC experts.

Yob Kinding, weighing approximately 75 kilograms, was captured on January 11 after being trapped by Perak Perhilitan in a durian orchard in the Bukit Kinding area. Prior to its capture, a video showing the Malayan Tiger Conservation Unit's tense encounter with the tiger during a monitoring operation went viral on social media.

Yusoff Shariff further reported that Yob Kinding has been receiving continuous care and monitoring since its transfer to NWRC. The ongoing assessment aims to ensure that the tiger remains in good health, which is crucial for its potential role in breeding programs.
