Kuala lumpur: Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB), in collaboration with Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad (YGMB), has introduced three new takaful protection schemes tailored specifically for educators. This launch coincides with the National Teachers' Day Celebration 2026.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the schemes-Skim Pendidik Muda, Skim Pendidik Perdana, and Skim Pendidik Budiman-aim to deliver comprehensive financial protection for educators and support staff affiliated with the Ministry of Education (MOE). These schemes are structured to be both accessible and financially viable for teachers at different career stages.
GETB announced that Skim Pendidik Muda targets early-career educators, providing coverage for death, total and permanent disability (TPD), and 50 critical illnesses, with monthly contributions beginning at RM20. Skim Pendidik Perdana focuses on teachers with families, offering protection for members, spouses, and children at RM49 per month. Skim Pendidik Budiman offers long-term protection up to the age of 70, with similar comprehensive benefits and contributions of RM45 per month.
The company highlighted that all three schemes provide high-value protection at a daily cost ranging from RM0.66 to RM1.63, presenting an affordable option for educators across Malaysia. This initiative capitalizes on YGMB's robust membership network and its foundational philosophy, 'Daripada Guru Untuk Guru,' established since 1994. The schemes also align with the national goal of boosting financial literacy and resilience among educators.
Rashida Mior Ahmad Darwish, GETB's head of marketing, emphasized the company's dedication to offering inclusive and sustainable protection plans for the education sector. She noted that the partnership with YGMB enables the delivery of protection solutions tailored to the needs of teachers and MOE support staff, paving the way for future high-impact collaborations.
Datuk Wan Munadi Wan Mamat, CEO of YGMB, expressed that the collaboration ensures practical and relevant protection for educators, aligning with the challenges they face. Celebrating Teachers' Day with these schemes underscores both recognition and safeguarding of educators' contributions.
The event was marked by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between GETB and YGMB, officiated by Deputy Director-General of Education (School Operations Sector) Zainal Abas, and attended by YGMB chairman Datuk Abdul Muie Ngah and Rashida.
