Putrajaya: Chinese President Xi Jinping has outlined a three-point proposal to build a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, during talks with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya on Wednesday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that Xi’s first proposal is for both countries to uphold strategic independence and carry out high-level strategic coordination. The statement highlighted that both China and Malaysia are self-reliant nations opposing external interference, and should support each other in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
The second point focused on combining efforts for development and setting a benchmark for high-quality cooperation. Xi emphasized China’s commitment to advancing Chinese modernization through high-quality development, aligning with Malaysia’s Ekonomi MADANI initiative. He urged collaboration in the digital economy, green economy, blue economy, artificial intelligence, and other frontier areas to strengthen various chains including industrial, supply, value, data, and talent.
Xi’s third proposal suggested enhancing inter-civilizational exchanges and mutual learning. With the signing of a mutual visa exemption agreement, he encouraged scaling up tourism, youth, and subnational exchanges, and deepening cooperation in culture, education, sports, film, and media. He also expressed China’s readiness to continue joint research on giant panda conservation with Malaysia.
Xi’s visit to Malaysia is a three-day state visit, which commenced on Tuesday at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
