Kuala Lumpur:The public service sector in Malaysia has seen a notable increase in women's participation, with women making up 60.41 percent of the total permanent civil servants as of September 25.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Ni Ching highlighted this growth, noting an increase in women's participation in top management positions from 39.32 percent in 2024 to 39.96 percent. This data, provided by the Public Service Department, does not include women in uniformed bodies.
In the Ministry of Communications, women constitute 44 percent of civil servants, with specific departments such as the Community Communications Department (J-KOM) at 57 percent, the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) at 56 percent, and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) at 54 percent. Women's involvement in the ministry's top management group has also risen from 26 percent last year to 30 percent currently.
Several agencies under the Ministry of Communications have reported high female participation in top management roles, including the Department of Information (JAPEN) at 67 percent, the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) at 50 percent, and Bernama at 33 percent.
In related developments, the AI@NADI programme, launched by the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), has been implemented nationwide. Since its inception in June, it aims to involve 25,000 participants by the year's end, with 20,044 participants recorded by August 31. Among the 1,247 participants currently undergoing the programme, 69 percent are women. The programme also aims to develop at least one prompt engineer in each NADI to enhance AI technology capabilities at the community level.
