Wesak Day: Aaron Calls For Stronger Unity, Ethical Digital Society

Kuala lumpur: National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has called on Malaysians to uphold human values, strengthen unity, and progress towards a more ethical, well-mannered, and wise digital society.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in his Wesak Day greetings to Buddhists nationwide, Aaron emphasized that the theme of this year's national-level celebration, 'Mendepani Era Digital, Memupuk Kebijaksanaan Bersama', carries a significant message for all Malaysians. He highlighted the challenges posed by the digital era, including the spread of hatred, fake news, extremism, and a culture of unfounded judgment.

Aaron noted that unity is tested both in the real world and on social media, where a single post can either unite society or harm national harmony. He stressed the importance of MADANI values such as respect, compassion, and social sustainability, which should be reflected in everyday actions, including social media interactions.

He urged Malaysians to be a mature digital society by thinking before sharing, verifying information before believing, and respecting differing views. Aaron also mentioned that every citizen has a responsibility to be an agent of unity rather than spreading hatred.

Furthermore, Aaron highlighted the belief of the MADANI Government that interfaith dialogue is essential in strengthening national unity, as it helps build understanding, bridge gaps, and foster respect among diverse communities. He reiterated that Malaysia's harmony and stability are built on embracing and celebrating diversity.

Wesak Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow, is the most important holy day for Buddhists, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and death of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism.
