Johor bahru: Tax incentives could help give Malaysian motorsport the boost it needs to unlock its greater potential, said Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim. Tunku Abdul Rahman, who is the owner and driver of Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR), said the high cost of running a motorsport operation made incentives such as tax exemptions important in helping develop the sport.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tunku Abdul Rahman suggested that the potential for motorsport growth in Malaysia remains limited and proposed incentives like tax exemptions for organizing races, purchasing racing cars, or supporting race teams. He elaborated on these ideas during a question-and-answer session at Motorsports Talk 2.0 2026 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Present at the event was Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim. Tunku Abdul Rahman addressed questions about measures needed to spur motorsport growth and the extent of its development in Malaysia.

The Motorsports Talk 2.0 2026 programme, organized by QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd (QSR Brands) in collaboration with UTM, offered students a chance to learn about the international motorsport ecosystem. Hosted at the Raja Zarith Sofiah Library, the event featured the two sons of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who shared their experiences and JMR's global achievements.

JMR recently made history as the first Malaysian team to win the Pro-Am category at the prestigious CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium.
