Vienna:Vantiva has launched a new 50-gigabit passive optical network (50G PON) optical network terminal (ONT) aimed at enhancing fibre broadband networks to meet future data requirements. The FXA701Z device adheres to the ITU-T G.9804 standard, providing symmetrical data transmission speeds both upstream and downstream.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the device comes equipped with an XGS-PON port, enabling telecommunications operators to initially deploy it on existing 10G networks. This feature allows for an upgrade to 50G services without the need to replace the terminal.
Barry Weber, Vantiva's Senior Director of Product Management, noted the rising demand for upstream network capacity due to increasing data traffic from video calls, cloud backups, and AI applications. Meanwhile, Ashwani Saigal, the Chief Product and Engineering Officer at Vantiva, highlighted that the device will expand the company's fibre broadband product range as operators prepare for next-generation network capabilities.
The FXA701Z is designed to support bandwidth-intensive applications like 8K video streaming, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), distributed artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, and mobile backhaul for base stations. It includes operations, administration, and maintenance interface support via the optical network terminal management and control interface (OMCI), allowing operators to manage and diagnose the device with standard tools already in use across their passive optical network infrastructure.
The compact device can be installed on a tabletop or mounted on a wall, and its covers are made from post-consumer recycled ABS plastic. Vantiva is presenting the FXA701Z at the Network X event in Vienna, Austria, from October 13 to 15.
