Kelantan Welfare Department Highlights Domestic Violence Against Husbands

Kelantan:Domestic violence is not limited to husbands abusing their wives; it can also involve wives or other family members abusing husbands, as stated by Kelantan Social Welfare Department (JKM) director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Che Samsuzuki emphasized the importance of addressing this issue seriously, as unchecked violence within families could lead to severe injuries, death, or other criminal activities. He noted that stress should never be relieved through violence against partners or family members.

The JKM director reported that 32 domestic violence cases have been recorded in Kelantan this year. This includes a recent incident where a woman was seriously injured after being stabbed by her husband in Kampung Padang Lepai, Kadok, on October 5.

To tackle domestic violence, JKM is collaborating with the Kelantan State Women's Development Office, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and other relevant agencies to enhance public awareness and inform victims of the available assistance. Victims are encouraged to seek help from JKM or the Women's Development Office, report the abuse to the police, and undergo medical examinations if injured. Che Samsuzuki urged victims not to remain silent or treat the issue as a mere family matter.

On a different note, regarding preparations for the Northeast Monsoon, Che Samsuzuki mentioned that 451 temporary evacuation centers have been prepared in Kelantan. Additionally, 162 forward bases have been stocked with essential supplies to aid flood victims. JKM is working alongside various agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, PDRM, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, to ensure readiness for potential floods. Twelve flood simulation exercises are planned for the year, involving drills with villagers in frequently affected districts.
