Johor bahru: The Used Cooking Oil Collection Awareness Programme has achieved a significant milestone, expanding its collection network to encompass 100 PETRONAS stations across the nation. Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad announced this development, highlighting the rapid growth of the initiative since its inception in 2023. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the collaboration between the ministry and PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad began with just three stations. The network has since grown significantly, with the PETRONAS Parit Bintang station becoming the 100th participant on June 20. Speaking at the launch of the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) OIL2RECYCLE Programme, Noraini noted that the initiative has collected 1,887.7 tonnes of used cooking oil as of June 2026, involving over 136,000 people nationwide. 'These numbers are not mere statistics; they represent a shift in public behavior towards recognizing used cooking oil as a valuable resource,' Noraini stated. She e xpressed confidence that the involvement of educational institutions like UTHM would further bolster the programme's success and promote the principles of a circular economy among students. Moreover, Noraini emphasized that the initiative is aligned with the government's broader goals of reinforcing the national energy supply chain. As Malaysia moves towards more sustainable, low-carbon energy solutions, the programme is seen as a critical component in this transition.
