Kuala lumpur: Vietnam retained the ASEAN Championship title after drawing 2-2 with Thailand to complete a 4-2 aggregate victory at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi tonight. According to BERNAMA News Agency, leading 2-0 from the first leg in Bangkok, the hosts initially fell behind when Thailand's midfielder Yotsakon Burapha scored in the 12th minute. Despite the setback, Vietnam's position in the tie remained strong, as Thailand, who are seven-time champions, squandered a chance to draw level on aggregate when midfielder Kakana Khamyok missed a penalty three minutes after the restart. The match took another turn when Thailand's goalkeeper, Chatchai Bootprom, scored an own goal four minutes later, restoring Vietnam's two-goal cushion in the tie. Substitute Wanchai Jarunongkran gave Thailand a temporary lead on the night, scoring in the 84th minute to make it 2-1. However, his own goal in stoppage time ensured the match ended in a draw, sealing Vietnam's victory in the championship. This victory marks Viet nam's fourth ASEAN title, following their previous triumphs in 2008, 2018, and 2024. In the last edition's final, Vietnam also defeated Thailand, securing a 5-3 aggregate victory.
