Kuala lumpur: Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has established a new faculty, the Faculty of Intelligent Computing (FKC), which will be one of the main drivers of the university in the fields of digital technology and artificial intelligence.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the FKC was inaugurated by the Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir during his working visit to the university here today. UniMAP vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli in a statement today, during the minister's working visit, said that the establishment of the faculty is a merger of the Computer Department and the Mathematics Department, unified to strengthen the fields of education, research, and innovation based on intelligent computing.
Zaliman stated that the FKC offers eight academic programmes covering diploma, undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels with strengths in the fields of Computer Engineering, Data Science, Embedded Systems Design, and Mathematics. "This faculty accommodates more than 900 students from various levels of study. As an added value to student development, the FKC also provides opportunities for professional certification through industry collaborations such as Huawei, in line with current needs and global technological advancements," he said.
He also mentioned that the initiative helps strengthen students' competencies and enhance graduates' employability. Zaliman added that the FKC is equipped with laboratory facilities such as the National Instruments laboratory that supports teaching, learning, and research activities based on real-world applications.
During the working visit, Zambry also officiated UniMAP's University Health Centre.
