Kuala lumpur: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has consented to the appointment of former High Court judge Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), effective May 13.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar stated that the appointment aligns with Subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act (Act 694). "The government is confident that with his extensive experience and high integrity, he will be able to strengthen governance, enhance public confidence, and intensify anti-corruption efforts in the interest of the nation," he said in a statement today.
Abdul Halim's appointment comes as a replacement for Tan Sri Azam Baki, whose tenure is set to conclude on May 12. In preparation for this transition, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had submitted a list of candidates for the MACC chief commissioner position to His Majesty yesterday.
