U Mobile Achieves 90% Nationwide Coverage Ahead of Schedule

Kuala Lampur:U Mobile Sdn Bhd has successfully achieved 90 percent coverage of populated areas (CoPA) across the nation, nine months earlier than planned. This milestone reflects the commitment of mobile network operators (MNOs) to advancing the country's digital infrastructure.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil noted that the adoption of the Dual 5G Network Model by the government has stimulated competition, increased investment, and driven innovation in Malaysia's telecommunications sector. Fahmi emphasized the importance of digital infrastructure in technological progress and the adoption of new applications.

Fahmi also encouraged MNOs to enhance collaboration with higher education institutions, as the rise in data consumption among university students highlights the need for robust connectivity.

U Mobile's CEO, Wong Heang Tuck, highlighted that the government's Dual 5G Network Model has fostered competition and innovation. He stated that U Mobile's nationwide 5G rollout, which started in July 2025, reached 80 percent CoPA by March, surpassing targets. The company has been recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records for its swift deployment, achieving 90 percent CoPA by September's end.

Wong emphasized that the achievement is not only about speed or coverage but also about delivering faster and more reliable connectivity to Malaysians, supporting communication, education, business operations, and participation in the digital economy.
