Jeppesen ForeFlight Introduces AI Agents to Enhance Aviation Operations

Kuala Lampur:Jeppesen ForeFlight has launched its first set of artificial intelligence (AI) agents designed for its Aviation Operating Intelligence platform, Jeppesen ForeFlight Airflow. This initiative aims to assist airlines in boosting operational efficiency, cutting costs, and enhancing decision-making processes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the platform, part of the company's agentic AI strategy introduced in July, allows clients to utilize Jeppesen ForeFlight's agents, integrate third-party tools, or create their own agents tailored to their operational needs. Users can decide the extent of automation while keeping human oversight over the decisions made.

Jeppesen ForeFlight CEO Brad Surak noted that the aviation industry's unique demands for safety, efficiency, and compliance with global regulations make the platform suitable for gradual adoption. Built on decades of expertise and insights from over 60 million flights annually, the platform focuses on analyzing operational cause and effect, moving beyond simple pattern recognition.

The initial agents focus on three key operational areas: Trip Trading, which facilitates crew trip exchanges; Target Mastery, aiding planners in building rosters based on business goals like cost and fatigue management; and Augmented Ops Control, which assesses recovery options during disruptions.

Each AI agent functions with an aviation-specific context layer, ensuring that data and knowledge remain under customer control. Recommendations are provided with supporting facts and reasoning, enabling operators to review and maintain accountability for decisions.

The platform is guided by five core principles: contextual reasoning, certified inputs, transparent reasoning, operation within the aviation Safety Management System framework, and human-centered decision-making. Jeppesen ForeFlight plans to extend the platform to business and military aviation and is seeking commercial aviation partners for co-development, with a wider rollout expected early next year.
