Two Simpang Renggam Crash Victims First To Receive LINDUNG 24 Jam Benefits

Simpang renggam: Two motorists injured in a fatal accident in Simpang Renggam, Johor, have become the first recipients of benefits under the Non-Employment Injury Scheme (SKBBK), or LINDUNG 24 Jam, since it came into force yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) stated that Husnizam Hisamudin, 43, and Muhammad Amirul Hazim Misnon, 22, are active contributors under Act 4, making them eligible for sick leave payments and permanent disability benefits under the scheme. Perkeso Group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed mentioned that Husnizam suffered injuries to his shoulder and hand, while Muhammad Amirul sustained injuries to his mouth, qualifying for unlimited implant treatment, rehabilitation equipment, and support as required.

Mohammed Azman highlighted that many are aware of Perkeso's protection for work-related accidents, but LINDUNG 24 Jam now extends this coverage to include accidents outside working hours, even during holidays. He emphasized that this recent tragedy illustrates that misfortune can occur at any time, and LINDUNG 24 Jam ensures continued protection for contributors and their families.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan noted that the LINDUNG 24 Jam scheme, introduced through amendments to the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4), expands Malaysia's social security framework to cover incidents beyond the workplace, including public holidays.

Mohammed Azman also stated that the heirs of the three victims who were killed in the incident are eligible to receive benefits under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 (LINDUNG Pekerja scheme). The Perkeso Prihatin Squad was mobilised immediately after the incident to verify victim details and facilitate the provision of LINDUNG 24 Jam assistance.

Despite the incident occurring outside working hours, victims' heirs remain eligible for Perkeso protection, subject to their qualifications. The new scheme, effective from yesterday, expands contributors' protection to cover incidents occurring at any time and location under the LINDUNG 24 Jam concept. This move aims to close the gap that previously existed and ensure continued protection for insured persons affected by misfortune outside working hours.

Mohammed Azman expressed his condolences to the victims' families and hoped the assistance would help ease their burden. He reiterated that contributions made by Perkeso contributors are vital, as they support others in times of misfortune. The LINDUNG 24 Jam initiative, effective June 1, 2026, aims to provide a sustainable social security shield for unexpected incidents like this tragic case.

The accident involved a five-vehicle crash on Jalan Johor Bahru-Ayer Hitam, Simpang Renggam, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a 10-year-old girl.
