Kuantan: A trader lost over RM335,000 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scheme he came across on Facebook last November. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman reported that the 51-year-old was approached by an individual via WhatsApp, offering an investment opportunity with a promised 12 percent return within a short period of three to seven days.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim proceeded to make 19 cash transactions into two different bank accounts between December 4, 2025, and January 27 of this year. The funds were sourced from his personal savings and loans borrowed from friends.
The trader was informed that his investment had generated a profit exceeding RM2.4 million. However, when he attempted to withdraw the funds, he was instructed by the suspect to pay an additional 10 percent of the total profit as a prerequisite.
Realizing the deceit, the trader filed a report at the Kuantan Police Headquarters yesterday. The case, as stated by Yahaya, is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
