Kuala lumpur: A total of 300 youths joined the Explorace programme at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa this morning as part of Internet Safety Day 2026, aiming to boost cybersecurity awareness through a fun and interactive approach.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme was run by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Federal Territory Youth Council (MBWP), involving participants aged 15 to 40 from across Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. MBWP president Khairul Rizam Abu Samah noted that the competition helped unite youths from different backgrounds while highlighting the importance of a safe digital ecosystem.
'The Explorace wasn't just about physical activities; it also focused on learning, introducing technical communication skills rarely shared with the public,' Khairul Rizam told Bernama.
Aliff Izzuddin Baharuddin, the programme director and MBWP committee member, emphasized that the diverse mix of ages and ethnicities among the participants demonstrated their openness to acquiring new knowledge. He added that challenges involving Morse code, semaphore, and the phonetic alphabet tested participants' skills and precision in emergency and technical communications.
'By involving different youth groups, we can see their diversity and willingness to learn new skills that, while not widely known, are important in certain situations,' Aliff Izzuddin said.
Prizes for the event include RM2,000 for the winner, RM1,500 for second place, RM1,000 for third, and consolation prizes for the top 10 participants. Muhammad Zuhair Mohd Fuad, a 22-year-old participant, described the programme as a challenging and unexpected experience that required strong teamwork to complete tasks at each checkpoint.
Carrying the theme Teknologi Pintar, Pilihan Selamat: Penggunaan AI Secara Selamat dan Bertanggungjawab (Smart Technology, Safe Choices: Using AI Responsibly), Internet Safety Day 2026 emphasized the need for wise digital choices in a rapidly evolving AI-driven landscape. The event will conclude with Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil officiating Internet Safety Day 2026 and launching the Safe Internet Campaign 2026.
