Kuala terengganu: The owner of a toy, bicycle, and electric scooter shop in Kampung Simpang Tok Ku near here suffered losses of nearly RM1 million after the premises, which had been operating for the past five years, were destroyed in a fire last night.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the shop's manager, Maya Suhaidi, 40, said the incident, which occurred at about 7.40 pm, destroyed all items in the shop, including about RM10,000 in cash from daily sales. Maya mentioned that she and 10 employees were inside the two-storey building when they detected the smell of smoke coming from the rear of the shop.
Maya further explained, 'I immediately checked the source of the smoke and discovered a fire near the women's prayer room. After making an emergency call, I instructed the employees to leave the premises as the smoke became thicker.' She added that the business owner, Mohd Azrol Azahar, 39, was managing a branch of the shop in Kuala Berang at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station chief, Thoyyibah Taib, said an emergency call regarding the fire was received at 7.49 pm last night. Following the report, 24 personnel, along with three fire engines, from her station and the Jalan Kota Fire and Rescue Station, were dispatched to the scene.
Thoyyibah noted that firefighting operations took nearly half an hour, from 7.52 pm until 8.23 pm. She reported that the fire involved a two-storey permanent children's toy shop, with about 50 per cent of the lower floor damaged. However, no casualties were reported.
