MMEA Distributes Vouchers, Food Baskets To Fishing Community In Tumpat

Tumpat: The Kelantan branch of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) today distributed RM100 cash vouchers and food baskets to 18 asnaf families and 45 students from the fishing community in Tumpat. One of the recipients, 57-year-old fisherman Rosdi Mamat from Kampung Geting, expressed that the assistance highlights the agency's commitment to supporting and easing the burden on the local community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Rosdi shared that he plans to use the RM100 voucher to buy a songkok and a baju Melayu for one of his three children, noting the financial strain from purchasing school supplies earlier this year. Another recipient, Hashim Jusof, 49, from Kampung Pantai Geting, mentioned his inability to go to sea since November last year due to rough seas and strong winds. He emphasized his reliance on government aid, including the fishermen's livelihood assistance and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR).

The distribution was carried out by the chief of the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post, Lt (JG) Mohd Yuskhairul Alhasis Mat Yunus. This initiative is part of a periodic programme conducted during the monsoon season and at the start of the school year. Earlier this year, the programme was also extended to 50 children of fishermen in the Pasir Puteh district.
