Tourism Malaysia and MYDIN Join Forces for ‘Jom Jalan MYDIN’ Campaign to Enhance Domestic Tourism

Kuala lumpur: Tourism Malaysia is strengthening efforts to boost domestic tourism through a strategic partnership with Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (MYDIN) via the 'Jom Jalan MYDIN' campaign to promote shopping tourism in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tourism Malaysia senior director of Advertising and Digital Division and head of VM2026 Secretariat Mohd Akbal Setia announced that domestic visitor spending reached RM34 billion in the first quarter of this year, marking a 15.8 percent increase from RM29.4 billion in the same period last year. During this time, the country recorded 74.7 million domestic visitor arrivals, a rise of 7.2 percent compared to 69.7 million in the first quarter of last year.

Mohd Akbal emphasized the importance of maintaining this momentum through initiatives like the 'Jom Jalan MYDIN' campaign, which was launched at the MYDIN Hypermarket. He highlighted that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and Tourism Malaysia are committed to developing the country's tourism industry with the support and participation of the people.

The campaign is aligned with MOTAC's three main objectives: boosting domestic tourism, offering interactive shopping experiences, and promoting Malaysian-made goods. With over 83 MYDIN branches nationwide, Tourism Malaysia can directly engage with communities across the country.

MYDIN managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin stated that shopping centres have evolved from being mere places for purchasing daily necessities to platforms offering meaningful experiences. MYDIN is dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized industrial entrepreneurs (SMIs) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing space for marketing locally made products.

In a statement, Tourism Malaysia revealed that the campaign features treasure hunt activities at selected MYDIN outlets and opportunities to win domestic travel packages, including cruise holidays and hotel stays sponsored by TH Travel and Services Sdn Bhd. The campaign, which runs until September 30, offers shoppers prizes, vouchers, and savings worth more than RM5 million, made possible by participating suppliers.
