TNB Enhances Governance with New Senior Leadership Roles

Kuala lumpur: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has announced the appointment of Mahathir Nor Ismail as the Senior Chief Network Officer (SCNO) and Datuk Muhamad Nazri Pazil as the Senior Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer (SCSSO), effective January 1, 2026. These appointments come with the creation of two senior leadership roles designed to enhance governance within the company.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these new roles aim to provide a clearer focus, strengthen accountability, and separate strategic direction from operational execution. TNB emphasized that the refined leadership and corporate structure are part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining strong governance, delivering effective business results, sustaining performance, and ensuring long-term organizational resilience in the complex energy landscape.

TNB stated that this leadership refinement demonstrates the company's disciplined approach to governance and succession planning. It aims to keep the organization future-ready, well-led, and supported by a robust pipeline of leadership talent to fulfill its national responsibilities sustainably. The new structure allows the president and chief executive officer to offer clear overall leadership and stewardship while empowering senior leaders with well-defined responsibilities to drive performance, transformation, and long-term value creation.

Under the revised structure, the SCNO will manage the majority of execution and delivery responsibilities, ensuring clear ownership of operational performance, network reliability, and system resilience. This focus aligns with TNB's core mandate of providing a safe, reliable, and resilient electricity supply for the nation.

On the other hand, the SCSSO will consolidate strategy, sustainability, and long-term planning functions under one leadership umbrella. This consolidation aims to strengthen strategic coherence, enhance stakeholder communication, and ensure that sustainability considerations are fully integrated into TNB's long-term decision-making and business direction.

Additionally, TNB is committed to reinforcing good governance practices, improving coordination across the organization, and strengthening the alignment between long-term planning and day-to-day operations. The new structure also supports a more robust succession management process by developing deep leadership capabilities and ensuring continuity at critical leadership levels.
