Kuala lumpur: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has channelled RM4.5 million in zakat through its Musolla TH programme to build and upgrade selected mosques and surau, benefiting Muslim communities in areas in need nationwide. TH group managing director and chief executive officer Mustakim Mohamad stated that so far, the programme has resulted in the construction of two mosques and nine surau across eight states, including Sabah and Sarawak.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mustakim emphasized TH's commitment as an Islamic institution to fulfilling zakat obligations on behalf of its depositors. This commitment is reflected in various zakat wakalah programmes each year, including the Musolla TH initiative introduced in 2023. Mustakim highlighted the importance of mosques and surau as vital institutions for the ummah, serving not only as places of worship but also as centers for community unity and platforms for enhancing Islamic outreach.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Surau Al-Hajj in Taman Koperat Putera, Kampung Seberang, Mustakim announced that RM1 million was allocated for the construction of suraus in two states. Specifically, RM500,000 was designated for Surau Al-Hajj in Terengganu and another RM500,000 for a new surau in Bario, Sarawak. The event was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
Mustakim expressed his gratitude for the completion of Surau Al-Hajj, which was built with RM500,000 in zakat wakalah assistance from TH. The new surau is expected to benefit over 550 congregants and local residents, providing a convenient location for prayers, religious classes, and community programs, thereby strengthening community ties.
TH remains committed to implementing more impactful zakat programmes to ensure that target groups continue to benefit from these initiatives.
