Terengganu Orders Monsoon Safety Alert, Bans Swimming And Camping

Kuala terengganu: Hotels and tourism operators have been instructed to brief guests and screen safety videos about monsoon-related dangers ahead of the school holidays starting next week. State Tourism, Culture, Environment, and Climate Change Committee chairman Datuk Razali Idris announced new safety measures in light of the Northeast Monsoon, prohibiting swimming and camping near waterfalls due to significant risks.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Razali emphasized the dangers posed by water surges, urging the public to avoid swimming in the sea or at waterfalls during the upcoming school break when visitor numbers are expected to rise. He stated that the Marine Department would decide on tourists' access to specific island locations.

In a separate update, Razali reported that Terengganu welcomed 8.5 million tourists between January and November, surpassing its target of 6 million, with 7.2 million being domestic visitors. This announcement was made during the launch of the 2026 Terengganu Calendar of Events, where State Tourism director Hilman Hajijan was also present.
