Terengganu Museum Introduces Theatre to Highlight State History

Kuala Terengganu:The Terengganu State Museum Board is employing a creative and interactive tactic by using theatrical performances to share the state's historical and cultural narratives with the public.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this initiative will be brought to life through a three-day performance of the Royal Musical Theatre Production "Karya Agung Tarawikh Sultan Zainal Abidin III." The event is scheduled to take place from tomorrow until October 13 at the Terengganu Equestrian Resort (TER) in Kuala Terengganu.

The production is inspired by the 1936 literary work "Syair Tawarikh Sultan Zainal Abidin III," originally penned by Tengku Dalam Kalthum. This literary piece was adapted into a drama script by Ali Jusoh and brought to the stage by Marzuki Ali. The production is a collaborative effort involving the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry, as well as Kumpulan Teater Asyik Terengganu.

Set during the reign of Sultan Zainal Abidin III from 1881 to 1918, the theatrical performance fuses acting, dialogue, music, visual arts, and dramatic elements, making historical content more engaging and accessible.

The Terengganu State Museum Board stated that this approach not only aims to strengthen the museum's role as a preserver of artefacts and manuscripts but also as a center for research, education, and dissemination of information regarding the state's history and heritage.

The board anticipates that this creative initiative will draw the interest of younger generations, encouraging them to explore Terengganu's history through modern and innovative methods. The approach could potentially serve as a catalyst for future explorations into innovative ways of presenting history and culture, expanding appreciation for Terengganu's heritage across various levels.

The board also views these theatrical performances as a strategic way to enhance the museum's role as a lifelong learning institution, offering a refreshed and creative presentation of the state's history and heritage.
