Gopeng: The Gopeng parliamentary constituency "Temu Rakyat" (Meet the People) Programme, held for the first time this year, aims to draw the public closer to the various government agencies, thus allowing them to understand the policies and initiatives carried out by the Federal and Perak state governments. Gopeng Member of Parliament Tan Kar Hing said the programme would be held in stages throughout the Gopeng parliamentary constituency, starting at the Sungai Rapat state constituency before moving on to the Teja and Simpang Pulai state constituencies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this programme brings together all agencies to ensure the people receive the best service possible directly from various government agencies, including counters to lodge complaints and obtain information. The programme features the Ipoh City Council, Social Security Organisation, Zakat Perak Al Ridzuan, and the Malaysian Prison Department, with an emphasis on raising awareness among the public and youngsters regarding the issue of bullying, in line with the different themes for each programme location.
Also present at the programme today were Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, who is also the Sungai Rapat assemblyman, and Simpang Pulai assemblyman Wong Chai Yi. State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, also the Teja assemblyman, said the programme serves as a platform to disseminate information regarding various government initiatives, including the budget, physical development projects, welfare schemes, grants, and socio-economic programmes.
Ng stated that the programme serves as a one-stop centre for the public to have a better understanding of the roles played by government agencies, have access to information, and an avenue to lodge complaints directly. The programme also aims to empower democracy at the grassroots level through the performance evaluation of local community committees. Ng added that the Gopeng parliamentary constituency "Temu Rakyat" programme involves 10 government agencies and includes the setting up of complaint counters.
